Got any spinach for this fella? Custom carved for a seafood store. Chainsaw carvings make great advertisements for commercial enterprises. Everybody loves carvings and every store needs a trademark that folks will remember.
One woman's desire was to own an entire bear parade!!.
Below is a 3/4 size bull moose that took seven logs joined together to create.
A nicely weathered abstract in pine
An abstract-realist work in red oak, a cougar bust with swirling base.
Here's a custom ordered, painted carving of a rottweiler with it's name carved on the base. The spot on the tongue was an important detail to the owners, as was the playful smile this dog had!
They forgot to hibernate I guess....

A little bit about me...
I started carving in 1975 as a hobby, but it wasn't until 1988 that I first tried carving with a chainsaw one day when I should have been cutting firewood. Boredom got the best of me though , so I decided to make a bunny out of a butternut log that was destined for the woodstove. Since that day I have created  over 5,000 chainsaw sculptures.
I am a co-founder of The United Chainsaw Carvers Guild, an international organization of chainsaw artists and the past Editor of the guild's newsletter ,  The Chainsaw Letter.  I am also a member of  The National Woodcarving Association, The Cascade Chainsaw Carvers Guild, the Pike County, Pa. Arts and Crafts Council and the Monroe County, Pa. Arts Council.
The scope of my work spans a wide variety of subjects from wildlife and people to abstract forms. My  sculptures have found homes in every state and several foreign countries. I have been featured in newspaper and T.V. news reports several times. My work and my shop has been used as background  in photo shoots for magazines and you can even find  some of my abstract carvings in a N.Y. City nightclub. A Harley Davidson store in Germany displays a Buffallo Warrior carving of mine, while a carving of an eagle and bear graces the grave of a Native American Indian Chief. Log cabin owners, hunting lodges, resorts, restaurants, parks, campgrounds and private collectors are just a few of the clients who have purchased my 100% chainsaw carved sculptures over the years.
Past clients are always referring new clients to me which allows me to continue doing the kind of work that I love. I thank all those who have already purchased  one or several of my chainsaw carvings. I hope that you too will  find a place in your heart and home for one of my unique Tree Creations.    Now please enjoy the photos of my work and feel free to contact me with your ideas.  Custom orders are my specialty! Thanks for visiting!                                                                                                                                            Jim Rourke
WIZARDS BY THE POND..........                        .AND TROLLS IN THE WOODS!

Below is a ram climbing a cliff.
Custom order.
Generally  custom orders are filled within one to two  months. Your sculpture will be completed by whatever date is agreed upon when you place an order. I'm reliable. A deposit is required of course. I am open to all ideas and enjoy a challenge.
Below is a Husky. This one was eventually painted all white for a UCONN fan. Their mascot is a white husky. A custom order.
Above is a picture of me...hmmm, sort of looks like I'm asleep at the saw while carving that fox flushing a pheasant.
This immature bald eagle was found injured on the side of the road near my shop. I called a raptor rehabilitator who came and got it. Here we are trying to unhook a coat I used to throw over it to pick it up. Those talons are incredibly strong and sharp! There are many eagles in this area and I am lucky to have them fly over during the work day sometimes. Bears also wander by often but I can't seem to get them to stand still and model for me!
This leaping trout sculpture incorporates realistc and abstract elements into the design. The abstract above right is titled, "Computer Log" and is 100% chainsaw carved.
Here's my friend Skip playing a drum I  carved into an Ash tree stump on his property. Skip designed the drum, helped hollow the inside, made the wood top and his wife did the painting. As far as I know this may be the first chainsaw carved drum like this ever made. It sounds amazing, I was very impressed with Skip's design. He makes very cool wooden drums himself. There are three distinct tones and it can be played loud enough to make the neighbors complain he says!
The ledge at the base allows Skip's young, drum students to stand on it so they can reach and play. Definitely one of my most unique commissions and lots of fun to create. Hollowing the inside was extremely difficult though, end grain ash is hard, hard wood.

The moose above was a commissioned custom order and required seven logs to be mortised and tenoned together. It is 100% chainsaw carved in white pine and burned for color.  Believe me, if you want to slow traffic by your place this will surely do the trick!  It was pretty funny to watch the drivers hit their brakes when they glanced out their windows and saw this moose.
Above is a 100 chainsaw carved Snowy Owl, custom ordered, painted with exterior acrylics.
A bear cub and a squirrel in black walnut.
Lions and tigers and bears oh my.

World's largest carved pickerel, 13' long, oak wood.  For the top beam of a post and beam sign frame.
Boy and girl carved to pull customer's antique wagons.

Below is an onsite 300 yr.old oak tree stump I carved into a totem pole for Mt. Vista Campground August of 2009 featuring an owl, a bear on all fours, a bear looking sideways with his butt showing on other side, a great blue heron with a fish in its mouth, a rattlesnake, a coyote howling, a squirrel, a swimming beaver, an arrowhead, a hummingbird, a raccoon's tail drooping from a hole and a flying eagle with large trout in its talons and a turtle...I think that's all?!
That's me on the nearby Delaware River doing intensive research on what smallmouth bass look like in case I ever have to carve one...
Here's a custom carved kneeling, praying fireman leaning on his axe, carved as a tribute to a brave son who died in the attacks on 9-11 from his father.  These kind of requests are very touching and I feel honored to be chosen to create such spiritual works.
Below is a carving of  3 baby Great Horned Owls in spalted sycamore.
A big, happy bee on a skep (old fashioned beehive) custom carved for a honey stand named Bedillion's Bees.
